When a course is created using the **Faculty Centre Self-Service Application**, 15 sections (weeks/modules) are automatically created in the new course shell.

If the course you are creating or copying has **less** than 15 sections, then additional blank sections will be added to the bottom of the course main page (since it will automatically populate to 15). You may delete these sections (as they will not contain any content) or use them to add additional content to the course.

If the course has **more** than 15 sections, these additional sections will appear at the bottom of the main course page with the title **Orphaned Activities**. To make these *Orphaned Activities *visible to modify, please see below:

 

1. Go to your desired course in mêskanâs. In the top right-hand corner of the page, turn ***Edit mode*** on.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the course. You will likely see the course set to display** 15 sections** in total. Please delete or add sections (also called “topics”) depending on what best suits the needs of your course. 

3. If your course was initialized with the content of a previous mêskanâs course, then the 15 sections may be too many or too few sections for your course. If this is the case, please follow the steps below:

- **Problem**: My original course had less than 15 sections (topics): There are too many sections.
  - **Solution**: Delete the extra sections. If your original course only had 10 sections, when this new course will automatically populate to 15 sections. Therefore, 5 of these sections will be empty. Simply delete the empty 5 sections. Please click here to learn more about removing extra sections: **[Adding/Removing Sections](#add/remove)**
- **Problem**: My original course had more than 15 sections (topics). There are not enough sections.
  - **Solution**: Add more sections. Orphaned sections are when a course had more than 15 sections originally and so when the course in converted, these remaining sections are orphaned (hidden) from view. Add however many remaining sections your course requires. Please be aware that if a course originally had more than 15 sections, the material in those extra sections will not be lost, but simply displaced amongst the current 15 sections. > ℹ️ **Please Note: **When you add a section to the course, the*** Orphaned Activities*** will populate the section based on the structure of the original course.

### Adding/Removing Sections (topics):

- **Add topic: **Select ***Add topic***.
- **Remove topic:** Select the three dots and then click ***Delete topic***
