The Kaltura virtual classroom offers three distinct types of chat functionality: 

1. Group Chat
2. private Questions and Answer Chat
3. 1:1 Chat.

**Display Chat**

- **Chat display by default**: The chat feature is automatically visible and displayed when a user enters a room.
- **Hiding the chat**: If the chat was previously hidden, users can make it visible again by clicking on the "Chat" option located in the upper bar.

## Group Chat

All users can communicate with each other in the classroom via the Group Chat:

Click the Room Chat button or tab on the Chat panel.

1. Select the text entry field located at the bottom of the chat interface, where the placeholder text "Type here..." is displayed.
2. Type your message in the text entry field.
3. Press the enter or return key on your keyboard to send the message.
4. To reply to an individual person, click the reply button associated with their message. Note that the reply will be visible to everyone in the chat.

## Questions & Answers Chat

If enabled, students/participants in the class have the capability to send private questions to instructors/moderators through the Question & Answers Chat. To access this chat, click the *Questions & Answers* Chat button positioned in the center of the chat interface.

1. Select the text entry field located at the bottom of the chat interface, where the placeholder text "Type here..." is displayed.
2. Type your message in the text entry field.
3. Press the enter or return key on your keyboard to send the message.


Instructors/moderators can view questions from different participants, which are highlighted with a red badge in the Questions & Answer Chat button. To respond to a question:

1. Click the Questions & Answers Chat button located in the middle of the chat interface.
2. Select the participant you want to respond to by clicking on the reply icon next to their name.
3. You can choose between replying privately (via the **Reply** button) or publicly (via the **Reply All **button).
4. Type your message in the text entry field.
5. Press the enter or return key on your keyboard to send the message.

## 1:1 Chat

If enabled, students/participants in class can direct questions privately to another specific student/participant.

To access the 1:1 chat feature, locate the search box at the top of the Chat panel and enter the participant's name you wish to engage in a private conversation. Afterward, select the desired participant from the list provided and proceed with the 1:1 chat.
