## Introduction

While this document refers to importing and exporting a *quiz*, the truth is that you are actually exporting and importing a question bank *category*. The questions from a particular question bank category are transferred from one course to another, and they are then used to assemble a new quiz.

Quizzes can be transferred from one course to another course with the Backup and Restore functions, but those processes work at the course level, so it can result in bringing over more material than you intended. Further, even when performed properly, using the Backup and Restore method to transfer a quiz from one course to another course transfers *the entire test bank*. If you transfer quizzes from course to course often, or if you share quizzes with colleagues, the test bank can eventually grow to the point that it cripples mêskanâs.

To both Export and Import a quiz, you must have a Teacher role in the course. If you want to transfer a quiz from one course to another, you must be a teacher in both the source and the destination courses. Alternatively, if you share a quiz with a colleague, you must be a teacher in the source course, and your colleague must be a teacher in the destination course, or vice versa.

If you are transferring questions to another one of your own courses, you can just leave the file in your browser for now or save it in a file on your computer for safekeeping.
